Fort Alden
1778-1781
10 miles south of Fort Plain
(site of the Cherry Valley Massacre)
Erected during the summer of 1778 at Cherry Valley, Fort Alden survived the destruction of the settlement and continued to be garrisoned until early 1781. Colonel Willett made the decision to abandon the fort and soon after it was destroyed by an enemy raiding party.
