Fort House 1779 8 miles northwest of Fort Plain (north side of the Mohawk River)
The fortified home of Captain Christian House, probably erected c. 1779 on the river flats near the mouth of the East Canada Creek. This fort was built as a neighborhood refuge, but assumed increased importance in 1781 and 1782, when it was regularly garrisoned by a company of troops detached from Fort Plain. The fort was attacked and successfully defended against a superior force of Loyalists and Indians in 1782.
