Fort Nellis
5 miles northwest of Fort Plain
(north side of Mohawk River)
Blockhouse of Christian Nellis located across the river on the flats just south of the Christian Nellis home. This blockhouse was utilized as a neighborhood refuge during the final 3 years of the war. A small detail of State Troops was frequently supplied from Fort Plain as a garrison. The blockhouse is gone, but the adjacent home of Christian Nellis still stands and is open to the public as an historic site.
