Fort Windecker 1779
6 1/2 miles northwest of Fort Plain
(south side of the Mohawk River)
The palisaded home of militia Lieutenant Johannes Windecker. This fortification was built on the river flats at present-day Mindenville in 1779. The fort contained a single blockhouse in addition to the fortified farmhouse. It guarded an important fording place on the Mohawk River. After 1781 troops were regularly sent from Fort Plain to garrison this fort.
